Fort Livingston Conservation Project

Customer’s Name: Luhr Bros / Louisiana Department of Natural Resources

General Scope of Project: This project consists of a rock dike built to protect the Gulf shoreline of West Grand Terre Island and Fort Livingston. This project was expedited because erosion rates along West Grand Terre rapidly accelerated due to the impacts of tropical storms in 2002. Fort Livingston, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was constructed in the 19th century by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the nation’s coastal defense system.

Bertucci performed all construction including placement to lines and grades 13,034 tons of bedding stone and 22,637 tons of armor stone Ancillary items included geotextile fabric, permanent warning signs, settlement plates, navigation aids, and temporary lighted constructing signs.
